Which sofa to choose for a small living room
Designing a small living room is difficult, but not impossible.
The sofa is the centerpiece of the living room. In fact, it is the ideal piece of furniture for hosting guests or for spending a moment of relaxation, and if chosen carefully, it can add a decorative touch to the room.
So how do you choose a sofa for a small living room? Here are the rules to follow.
1 - Keep in mind the available space
Realizing the space requirements is essential, a good method to do this is to simulate the placement of the new sofa in the room by applying masking tape on the floor to outline the shape of the new piece of furniture; this will allow you to properly assess the distances from walls, fixtures, and other furniture, perhaps even trying to move around it.
2 - Evaluate your needs
For a small room, you have several options when it comes to choosing the sofa, but it is advisable to carefully consider the type of use you want to make of it:
- The modular sofa: when you have a small living room, it can be interesting to opt for a modular sofa. It is a sofa made up of two, three, or more pieces. The pieces can be connected to each other. So you can put them together in different ways depending on the size and shape of your living room.
- The two or three-seater sofa: this piece of furniture against the wall will allow you to gain more space in your living room.
- The Scandinavian model sofa: this model is lightweight and gives the impression that the room is larger. It is characterized by a low backrest, as well as a high and thin base.
- Two two-seater sofas: if you have a small living room but don't want to give up a multi-seat sofa, you might consider opting for two two-seater sofas instead of a corner sofa, to better manage the space.
- The convertible sofa or the sofa bed: this is an interesting solution for small spaces that need to meet multiple needs. In fact, this multifunctional piece of furniture serves both as a sofa and as a bed. During the day, you use it to host your guests. And in the evening, all you have to do is open it up to sleep comfortably. However, if you opt for this type of sofa, make sure you have the necessary space to open it.
3 - Choose the appropriate color
In a small room, it is important to play with colors to make the room appear larger. This is why you should carefully choose the color of your sofa.
Dark-colored sofas should be banned. Dark shades, in fact, such as black, navy blue, and brown, absorb light and create a mass effect. Instead, opt for a sofa in a light color like beige, pink, white, etc.
But if you really prefer a dark-colored model, try to balance things out by choosing a stand-up model with clean lines.
As you can see, there are many possibilities for furnishing a small living room.
